An Ode to the orifice's of gerbils and other small mammals!
In the words of Hammy "We've got to beat these boys, they rape gerbils!" Unfortunately at the weekend we failed to overcome these defilers of small mammals! However I'm sure such poor results can be overcome with such simple solutions as PASSING! But that's enough about that!
This Wednesday the 1's have Stirling at 5.30pm and the 2's take on the mighty Edinburgh 2's at 3pm, all of these festivities are taking place at Peffermill. The form book says that this should be an easy win for the 1's with them having won last seasons fixture 10-2. Unfortunately the form book isn't quite as nice to the 2's, but if trends are to be believed we should win this one 4-0 (i wish!) In all fairness though, if we're going to beat them it's going to be this season! We also get two bites of the cherry as we get to play them again this season, BRING IT ON!!!!
Also in the news this week, Ceilidh tickets have gone on sale. At £12.50 a head they're well worth it and the more of these that we sell the more ball tickets we get! So grab 'em while you can from any licensed branch of Sean!
This weekend the 1's are away in Greenock with all the bits and pieces still TBC. The 2's are at Saughton against Waverley Inveresk 4's . If this isn't a six point weekend it'll be a dissapointment, so my advice is: Pass the ball and we'll rattle in a hat full!

HWU Saturday 2's looking for a reserve goalkeepr to take onthe reins in the absence of Mary this Saturday. Any volunteers?
Also, decent performance by the teams yesterday. Out played by Edinburgh 2's and eventually beaten 6-0. A rather unjust scoreline (more like 3-0 really) but a good solid performance with the occassional lapse or bad luck or just pure skill from the edinburgh boys getting the goals.
As for the 1's i didn't see the match but was informed the scoreline was a rather respectable 8-2, not as big as last year but decent enough none the less. May it continue. Mary.
good work by new president nick "the hoover" solman in making sure that the tradition of getting arrested after the first susf game of the season is kept alive (started obviously last year by the late, great andrew of dane)... granted possession and use of class A drugs is a tad more extravagant than theft of a stinkin bottle of vodka - who knows what criminal escapades next year will bring...
Look, to be honest I know I dont really have a right to comment as Im not part of the team - but as a hockey sympathiser I dont think that such slurs on nicks character should be tolerated from anyone, I believe that nick is a nice guy and what happened last night should be his business - people make mistakes (yes even those of you who think your better than the rest of the team). Thats what you guys are - a team, and its plain to see that certain individuals think that they are better than the rest of the team, just because they are older and maybe have more experience - news flash fucksock......THIS IS NOT THE CASE! it DOESNT make you a better person. So, to end my rant I would like to say that instead of making snide comments, maybe, just maybe, you should think about trying to support each other. This is purely my opinion, not the opinion of anyone else that I may know.

I would just like to say that some people suffer from lapses now and again, Mr Solman is not perfect, therefore not different to any of the rest of us. It just so happens he doesnt do things by halves.

See it's funny, because only you and me understand it! One day someone will give us a severe telling off for using this site for having conversations....mainly because we live in the same flat. Am i the only person who thought that this site was for discussing things relating to Heriot Watt Mens Hockey Club, not the grammatical whims of two obviously bored people?
Since they live about 15 feet (A guess, i dont want you coming correcting me for my inaccuracies) from each other, would it not be better for them to "talk" to each other using their mouths and vocal chords?

To get back to hockey... on Saturday the Watt 1's were at home to a very strong, high flying Stepps team.
The game started in edgy fashion with both teams keeping the midfield tight and only the Watt making any serious forays deep into their opponents half. Some good midfield link up play with the defence kept the Stepps attack at bay for the majority of the first half. The watt opened the scoring with a short corner hit over the keepers prone body (and the backboard??) The one goal advantage, on paper being slightly tough on Stepps, but deserved for the Watts hard work and commitment.
In true Watt fashion however, Stepps went up the field and very quickly struck home with a neat ball played hard and low to the keepers right taking the score to 1-1. The rest of the half was typically tight and both teams glad of the interval when it arrived.
The second half arrived in similar fashion to the first, with the umpire blowing his whistle to start the game.
For the first time this season, the Watt managed to keep concentration for the start of the second half and continued to work hard and fight for every ball, particular mention to Chris "Goose" Swanston for his seemingly effortless ability to make 2 tacklers look like pricks with one (albeit flukey) hit of a ball.
The second half produced more attempts on goal for both teams, with the umpiring beginning to take its toll, Stepps conjured up a few penalty corners, mainly through defensive lapses (according to the umpire). These all were fruitless despite a shot deflected off the stick of Captain Ross Simpson almost megging the Watt Keeper who managed to heroically pan the ball out to the left touchline, much to JC's delight.
The half was drawing to a close when the watt got another short corner, their second only of the game. The ball came out to the top of the D having been injected expertly, and fired in lacksadaisically, Ally desperate to make amends for his frankly fucking awful miss 2 wednesdays ago, managed this time, to steer the ball home from 4mm with a well excecuted volley.
At this point, Stepps went Feral and started to complain, moan and whinge about every thing that happened in the game from the goal onwards.
Granted there were some very interesting umpiring calls, a lot in favour of the watt.
In this stage of the game, special mention must go to JC for being a midfielder who doesnt get nosebleeds when defending as Stepps started to pile on the pressure. Some great tackling from Matt Remes kept Stepps at bay and JC incurred the wrath of (fresher) Ally, by larrupping the ball the length of the pitch with about 2 milliseconds to go, apparently Ally was a sure fire bet to make it 3.
If this is true, we shall never know.

So if you are getting to do that Mr Krebs:
St Mirren are officially the best team outside of the SPL. A pretty convincing 2-1 win for the Paisley side against an average Hamilton team was the outcome yesterday in the SFL showcase.
A mild afternoon in Airdrie was the setting for the Bell's cup final, a game marred by controversy and poor refereeing by Fifa-registered referee, Stuart Dougal. Nevertheless, the game did flow smoothly and on 24 minutes the 9,600 strong crowd witnessed the opening goal. On-loan Ranger Charlie Adam floated in a freekick towards the backpost, where left-winger Simon Lappin crashed the ball off the bar. The ball was not cleared to safety and rebounded back to Lappin who finished with aplomb.
The remaining 20 minutes saw St. Mirren go close a few times, with top scorer Stewart Kean being denied from 5 yards by Hamilton defender Steven Thomson.
After the restart, Hamilton appeared to up their game and with the second half only 2 minutes old, Aussie Scott Tunbridge put the ball in the back of the net after Saints keeper Chris Smith saved excellently from Brian Carrigan. For a while St Mirren failed to find the superb league form they have been showing recently and it seemed they were going to rue those missed chances in the first half. Chants of "cheat" resounded around the stadium as Hamilton keeper Dave McEwan, clutched his legs as St Mirren tried to force the ball into the goal.
The substitution of Billy Mehmet for Charlie Adam was a masterstroke for Gus McPherson's side as Saints pressed for a winner. With his first touch of the ball, Mehmet unleashed a powerful drive on McEwan's goal but with nine minutes left a forced cross, whipped in by ex-Celtic youth David van Zanten met the head of John Sutton who rose above his marker to power the ball home. Diving to the corner where van Zanten seconds earlier supplied the match winning cross, Sutton became lost under a pile of bodies. The travelling support erupted as fireworks exploded in the evening air. Saints held on until the final whistle, which caused a monumental cheer. St Mirren lifted their first piece of silverware in over 5 years, a fantastic day for the side who in 18 months will begin a new lease of life in their new home.
